My new found love…. bootcamp. It is the perfect way to tone and kill that nasty body fat you have always wanted to burn off. It’s been about two months since I started this journey and boy have I seen great results. Especially in my endurance and strength. During the first month of my fitness journey I decided I wanted to lose weight which turned into me running miles upon miles on the treadmill. It was boring to the max. I am not a runner at all. I did lose some weight but I realized that I wasn’t keeping the toned sexy physique that I aspired to have. I was just skinny. Strong is the new sexy I wanted to take my fitness workouts to the next level. So I got a Groupon for unlimited bootcamp sessions at Raw Fitness in Kansas City.

Talk about challenge to the max! I have never been challenged to the extreme before and I have played many sports. All I remember was that the first class had me doing 100 reps of push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and 20 wall climbers. I felt like an amateur among the group but I was focused on the end goal of me getting in the best shape. It wasn’t long before I was keeping up with them. Unfortunately I pushed too hard one day and got a little injured which set me back a week and a half.

A few weeks later, I decided to continue on my boot camp journey and found myself

How I Lost 4 Pounds in 3 Days (My sister lost 6)

It’s summertime and I had this aching desire to lose this little pooch that kept pushing through my maxi dresses. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining about my image because I love my figure but you know us gals can get a little nit-picky with this whole weight scale nonsense. I was perusing on Google one day trying to explore ways people have lost a few pounds in a few days. Being as health conscience as I am, I know that isn’t the ideal way to lose weight but I needed to burn that pooch for my own sanity to see if my body could actually do it.

I mean at first glance at this diet, other blogger friends were losing up to 10 pounds in three days! That’s insane. I know it has to be a good chunk of water weight as well. And I was doing boot camp classes so I knew I had to calm down with not working out during these three challenging days. I wish I took the time to take before and after pics but I totally forgot honestly. I was on a mission. Let me show you the food plan below. I got this plan from the main site here.

I was excited that my sister decided to partake in this epic struggle journey but she had lost more weight than me by the end of it all. Total of 6 pounds! I was so proud of her. Goes to show you that every body functions metabolically different.

DAY 1:

Breakfast

Military Diet Plan Breakfast Day 1
1/2 Grapefruit
1 Slice of Toast
2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter
1 cup Coffee or Tea (with caffeine)

Lunch

Military Diet Plan Day 1 Lunch
1/2 Cup of Tuna
1 Slice of Toast
1 cup Coffee or Tea (with caffeine)

Dinner

Military Diet Plan Day 1 Dinner
3 ounces of any type of meat
1 cup of green beans
1/2 banana
1 small apple
1 cup of vanilla ice cream

DAY 2

Breakfast

military-diet-day-two-breakfast
1 egg
1 slice of toast
1/2 banana

Lunch

Military Diet Plan Day 2 Lunch
1 cup of cottage cheese
1 hard boiled egg
5 saltine crackers

Dinner

Military Diet Plan Dinner Day 2
2 hot dogs (without bun)
1 cup of broccoli
1/2 cup of carrots
1/2 banana
1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream

DAY 3

Breakfast

Military Diet Breakfast Day 3
5 saltine crackers
1 slice of cheddar cheese
1 small apple

Lunch

Military Diet Day 3 Lunch
1 hard boiled egg (or cooked however you like)
1 slice of toast

Dinner

Military Diet Plan Day 3 Dinner
1 cup of tuna
1/2 banana
1 cup of vanilla ice cream

There are a few substitutions in the mix that you can find. Like I used rice cakes instead of salty crackers. And I also ate plain greek yogurt instead of the cottage cheese. I was happy that I lost four pounds after it all but I won’t really choose to do it again as I feel there are other alternatives of losing weight that includes more food throughout the day. I just wanted to experiment. I did lose a little of that pooch but I am horrible and didn’t get a chance to showcase my success. Don’t worry as you are certain to find my bikini pics on my Instagram account. So follow me @JennyChingLove!

walk to end lupus now

Talk about a FUN weekend getaway in Dallas! I think sometimes a quick trip somewhere for three days is the perfect amount of time to reset and get loose with friends or family. In my case it was hanging out with my great long time friends since high school (2002 to be exact!). It literally was a reunion for us. The last time I recall our wildly friendly trip was in Kansas City. It was time to reconnect and explore a diverse city. The main reason we got together was to support one of our friends in the 5K Walk to End Lupus Now fundraiser event. It was full of emotion to not only see the accomplishment of finishing the walk but to see us all support her for the cause. To learn more about this cruel autoimmune disease or how you can help please visit the non-profit site here.

So one thing I was completely proud of was my capability to pack light. I mean one backpack for the weekend. That takes skill for sure. It was my first time taking Spirit Airlines so that was interesting to try and fit in my carry on requirements.

Ok so what I love about my friends… we really don’t care what we do out in public. I had to get my 10,000 steps for the day while my friend Tim had to do his 75 daily push up challenge. We wanted to get it out of the way so why not just publicly showcase it at the airport terminal?

Upon arrival, it was time to indulge in some awesome southern drinks.

Walk to End Lupus Now 5K Adventure

Starting out at 9AM we made the 5K trek. It was great to meet people and learn either about their experience with lupus or how long they have supported their friends and family.

I didn’t wear as much purple but I did manage to create some glasses out of purple pipe cleaners and found myself this adorable pup. Don’t worry, the owner dyed it’s hair with all organic ingredients.

Adventure in the City

Success for the walk and next to exploring the city and enjoying it with good company. Can’t go on vacation without partaking in some food exploration. We found this nifty burger joint on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives from the Food Network app. I was ready to take a bite in their green chili hash burger.

Then we were off to the downtown area where we walked around the JFK memorial and the park nearby. The views of all the neat architecture was amazing.

First NBA game!

While partaking in our aperitifs, we decided last minute to just go to an NBA game like the basketball fanatics we are. Another adventure with these guys as we hop into the back of a guy’s truck to take us to the American Airlines center. Well I guess our girlfriend knew the guy so it wasn’t AS sketch 🙂 Let’s say it was definitely a fun 5 min ride and the sky view of all the buildings were pretty cool.

Too much hilarious fun. I didn’t get to take a pic of that as we were all crammed. I also didn’t get to take pics of our nightlife. Had to enjoy the moment of dancing on the rooftop bars with my pals!

friends for life

Great vacation this past weekend. So glad I could reunite with these guys. It definitely won’t be long as we reunite in August for our friend’s wedding in my hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. Stay tuned for that story!

How to make ice cream with just one ingredient

How To Make Ice Cream with One Ingredient

I was so thrilled to have found a way to make ice cream so quickly. It is my favorite dessert of all time. With just a few steps I had a bowl of sweet yum yum to devour. I had given up artificial sweets for 40 days. I mean it has been a struggle as I go through my withdrawals for ice cream, candy, and chocolate. I have three weeks left but I think my body has felt the amazing results of keeping healthy. So let me get to the point and show you how to make ice cream with one ingredient: bananas. That’s it? Yep.

Ingredients:

3 Bananas and your choice of additional flavorings such as cinnamon, cocoa powder, or sea salt. Whatever your tummy desires as a dash item.

Total Prep Time:

2 Hours to Freeze the Bananas

5 Minutes or less to slice your bananas

Quick Steps:

  1. Slice 3 bananas in coins as shown in the image below. You can cut up more or less depending on your ice cream cravings.
  2. Place the sliced bananas in a air tight container and place in the freezer for 1-2 hours.
  3. Take them out and dump them in your food processor. I suggest the processor since it is heavy duty and the blender might not form the frozen bananas into the creamy consistency like ice cream. Blend for 2 minutes.

Voila! You have delicious ice cream! Then you can add a dash of cinnamon, cocoa powder or any healthy additions to your liking. I told you all before in my post about how to make Healthy Kale Dip that I am inpatient when it comes to cooking and making things, so this tutorial on how to make ice cream with one ingredient was right up my alley.

Healthy Kale Dip in Kansas City

Healthy Kale Dip – 10 Minutes

A healthy kale dip is always a great way to add some flare to your veggies. It makes it easier for me to at least eat my veggies when I coat it with a delicious dip. I am not a very patient cook so when I can figure out a recipe that is quick and simple to make for my busy schedule, it is a double win in my book. So I thought I would share this recipe I made up on my own. Check out the steps of this healthy kale dip below.

Total Time – 10 minutes

IngredientsKale (1 bushel), Cottage Cheese (1.5 cups), Lemon (1 tbs), Cayenne Pepper (1/4 tbs), Olive Oil (2 tbs), Garlic (1 clove), and Salt (Optional)

  1. First I just put the olive oil, garlic clove chopped, and kale in a pan on medium heat for 5 minutes. Make sure you remove the kale leaves off the stems. You can also chop up the kale a little bit so it can blend faster. When I am in a rush I just remove the leaves and put it in the pan.
  2. Next I remove all from the pan and dump it in my blender. Then I add the cottage cheese, cayenne pepper, and a dash of salt. Blend for 2 minutes or until you get the texture you want for your dip. It might also help to add a little water to get the blending going because the kale might jam the bottom of the blender.

Voila! You made a really healthy packed dip in less than 10 minutes. I’ll eat this with carrots and snow peas but you can definitely choose whatever vegetable you desire. I think this healthy kale dip can be used as a condiment for sandwiches. Being creative with my healthy foods is a necessity because I want to ensure I intake all the vitamins I need during the day.

Cheers,

C’est la vie! Now here is definitely a way to get yourself motivated to lose the weight you want. It was just today that my girlfriend sent me this link to a fabulous site where you bet on yourself to lose that goal weight. Perfect timing for anybody wanting to lose weight for their New Year’s resolution. Want to earn an extra lump sum to recuperate from the holidays while looking sexy as you pick up that check? I introduce you to… HealthyWage.

Set up your goal individually or even with a team. If you sign up with a team of 5, you could earn $10,000. I am definitely partaking in this challenge to lose this stubborn 10 pounds of mine. What is even cool is that you could do the individual challenge along with the group challenge. There isn’t a cost to this but only the money you bet each month to contribute to the bucket of every person who signs up. If you don’t reach your goal by the end of your set goal time (which I know you will succeed), then you lose the money you bet on yourself to lose that goal weight. I challenge you to join and let me know how it goes. Let’s conquer these fitness goals together.

Cheers!

21 Day Ab Challenge – Join Me!

Hi Lovely People!

I think it’s time we take on a fitness challenge. Nothing crazy but completely doable so that at the end of a quick 21 days we can feel like we accomplished something. I know one of the main targets that we all try to target when working out is our abs. We want either the sexy flat abs or protruding six pack ones but with consistency that can all be achieved. So join me in these next 21 days (3 short weeks!) to getting closer to our ab goals.

Take a before pic now and when we all complete this challenge we can submit our after pics!

meDay 1 for me!

Healthy Eating

No magic pill...abs start in the kitchen

Of course it all starts in the kitchen guys. It all basically sums up to eating clean but I think we can get confused on what eating clean really is. So here is a basic example to what you should be eating as a starter. I like to go by filling your plate with more colors. I am talking about the greens, reds, oranges, and yellows. Not the browns of the infamous carbs.

Breakfast

– 6 Egg whites

– Unlimited veggies

– 1/4 cup of oatmeal with brown sugar

Snack Options (mid morning and mid afternoon)

– Fruit

– Yogurt

– Granola

– Protein Drink after working out

Lunch

– 4 oz. chicken with unlimited spinach or lettuce

– Unlimited veggies

Dinner

– 4 oz. chicken or 6 oz. salmon

– Unlimited veggies

– 1 cup of brown rice or 1 sweet pototoe

Try drinking a gallon of water a day and take a multi-vitamin while doing workouts on top of this ab workout.

The Ab Workout

Do this workout Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Friday. Do each workout without resting in between (you can do it!). You will perform this twice. If you are advanced you can try up to four times.

Start out with 30-45 minutes of cardio. I will be jogging but do anything that will get your body warmed up and remember to tighten those ab muscles when doing it.

Exercise 1

12 Leg Lifts

Exercise 2

12 Side Crunches

Exercise 3

12 Bicycle Crunches on each side

Exercise 4

12 Cross Over Crunches

Exercise 5

12 V-ups

Exercise 6

12 Sit ups

*Repeat 6 exercises twice to start and work your way up to four. Go slow and remember what you are focusing on as you do each rep.

Good luck everyone and looking forward to seeing your hard earned improvements.

Cheers!

Top Unique Fitness Events – Are you up for the challenge?

Hello Happy People!

Crazy how time flies. Only four more months to complete this year out. Most of us started the year with our ambitious fitness resolutions only to find out that we really only focused on it for the first couple months and quickly laze away with that goal. Well don’t be discouraged! You still have time to start. It takes four weeks for you to notice changes in your body, eight weeks for friends and family to notice, and twelve total weeks for the whole world to notice all of the hard work spent burning off those calories. So that is three whole months to achieve a ton of progress in your fitness journey by the end of 2014.

While I do have the privilege of participating in workout classes during the work day. There was a time when I didn’t go and simply did my own workout. I will definitely share more in a later post of simple workouts and healthy meal plans I do. For now, I found some awesome events you can work up to or sign up for now if you are already working out on a daily basis.

Training

Make sure you give yourself a month of working up to any of the more challenging events. Don’t just jump straight into these as you will definitely be too exhausted to move the next day and possibly injure yourself during the event. Listen to your body if you haven’t worked out in a while and gauge when you are able to sign up for these events. But we all know you can do it.

Workout Buddies

It is always fun to bring in friends with any fitness goal. Rally up a few friends to sign up and create some lasting memories.

Support a Cause or Even Win Some Mullah $$$

A lot of these events are supporting a cause or some of them allow you to win some cash if you are in the top performing group. Take advantage of it all. If you know of any more fun fitness events to add, please don’t hesitate to comment below and share with all! These are just some things I think would be cool to knock off my fitness event bucket list.

Fight For Air Climb

The Fight for Air Climb is definitely a unique fitness event hosted by the American Lung Association. This event occurs in 65 cities and occur in various places such as skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and challenge participants as they walk, run or race up hundreds of steps. You can do it individually or with a team to raise money for a good cause.

Great Urban Race

Now this is something unique and fun! The Great Urban Race is held in varying cities and teams solve clues, tackle challenges and race for cash prizes. Starts out with your team receiving 12 cryptic clues and each team will have 5 hours to race around the city to solve them. At the end, each team submits their responses and see who gets placed in the top three. Your team can also win to reach the National Championship Race. This is like your own Amazing Race show.

Warrior Dash

Warrior Dash is a large obstacle race series, held in more than 50 locations across the globe. Conquer a 3-4 mile course and 12 extreme obstacles. After conquering it all, celebrate with turkey legs, beer steins, and live music at a post-race party in a league of its own. There is even a national championship held consisting of the top winners where you could win $100,000 of total prize money. So push yourself!

Devil Dash

Devil Dash is a 5K running course comprised of many obstacles themed after the 7 Deadly Sins and then ending at the “Beer Garden of Eden” party. You will be climbing over cargo nets, running through the river, crawling through mud pits, and much more!

Tough Mudder

Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course consisting of lifting your fellow mates to form a pyramid, climbing through underwater tunnels, and climbing up to the top of a huge slide and rewarding yourself of taking the plunge into a pool of water. It’s about having a great story to tell of how you finished a crazy hard course.

Spartan Race

For my fellow fitness beasts, the Spartan Race is an intense obstacle course consisting of varying difficulties. The Spartan Sprint (3+ miles of obstacle racing), the Super Spartan (8+ miles), the Spartan Beast (12+ miles), and the Ultra Beast (26+ miles – one of two marathon obstacle courses along with Mudderthon) are your options. Spartan Race also has a military series in which obstacles are designed by the United States military. ESPN describes the Spartan Race as “a true test of will.

Hope this inspires you to take on a fitness challenge.

Cheers!
