Kansas City Fashion Week 2014

Kansas City Fashion Week 2014

Hey Peeps!

I am back and it has been a wee little bit since I have last written a post on my outings. This past weekend I got the opportunity to go to the Kansas City Fashion Week Show! Of course it was different from my NYC adventure but still fashion is fashion. I love exploring all designer styles and especially those that come from Kansas City where I reside now. I went by myself which was pretty independent as my boyfriend would call me out on. I mean because in this world you will no doubt run into somebody you know. Or if you don’t then you just have to put on your brave heels and meet new people which can be way more exciting! You never know who you will run into.  Now photo time….

10 Fascinating Facts About Art

Art is just so freaking cool. I admire all artists that find some avenue to express their individuality. From graffiti to fine art painters, I love hearing the various statements that illustrate what goes on in their minds when creating their work. Art comes in a variety of forms: Music, Fashion, Food, and Dance. I can’t get enough of it. It all started when I watched this documentary with a friend about the famous Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was a young artist from Brooklyn, New York who went from the graffiti on the streets to showcasing his work in the most famous fine art galleries in Manhattan. His work and style would feature the jumble of words, symbols, stick figures, and animals. Soon, his paintings came to be adored by an art loving public that had no problem paying as much as $50,000 for an original.

Then there is the wonderful Keith Haring designs. A lot of his work can be seen on clothing. My first t-shirt that I owned where I felt super cool was a Keith Haring shirt . It’s amaze to the ZING! It was really meant to be a shirt I wore to sleep but once in a blue moon I will wear it to the grocery store on a very chillax day. Which reminds me that I MUST go buy some more cutesy shirts with his designs. Anyways, wearing this shirt started how I became intrigued with fashion and art.

Now here you go. Learn some random cool facts about art!

  1.  Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
  2. Art programs are mandatory in countries that rank the highest for math and science.
  3.  So 39% of Bob Ross’ paintings contain an almighty mountain, 44% contain at least one happy cloud, and 18% feature a charming little cabin.
  4. At the 1900 Paris Olympics, the winners received valuable works of art instead of gold medals
  5. Vincent van Gogh painted “Starry Night” while he was in an insane asylum.
  6. Leonardo Da Vinci invented high heels
  7. Leonardo da Vinci spent 12 years painting the Mona Lisa’s lips.
  8. Mystery Build is an art contest with $21,000 in cash prizes. Create a work of art using only the materials in a Mystery Build Kit. Get famous.
  9. Vincent Van Gogh produced more than 2,000 works during his life: 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches. He only sold one painting while he was alive. That is some serious persistence.
  10. Now last but the most awesome… Mystery Build is an art contest with $21,000 in cash prizes. Create a work of art using only the materials in a Mystery Build Kit. Get famous.

Hope you enjoyed some of these! You learned something new 🙂

21 Day Ab Challenge – Join Me!

Hi Lovely People!

I think it’s time we take on a fitness challenge. Nothing crazy but completely doable so that at the end of a quick 21 days we can feel like we accomplished something. I know one of the main targets that we all try to target when working out is our abs. We want either the sexy flat abs or protruding six pack ones but with consistency that can all be achieved. So join me in these next 21 days (3 short weeks!) to getting closer to our ab goals.

Take a before pic now and when we all complete this challenge we can submit our after pics!

meDay 1 for me!

Healthy Eating

No magic pill...abs start in the kitchen

Of course it all starts in the kitchen guys. It all basically sums up to eating clean but I think we can get confused on what eating clean really is. So here is a basic example to what you should be eating as a starter. I like to go by filling your plate with more colors. I am talking about the greens, reds, oranges, and yellows. Not the browns of the infamous carbs.

Breakfast

– 6 Egg whites

– Unlimited veggies

– 1/4 cup of oatmeal with brown sugar

Snack Options (mid morning and mid afternoon)

– Fruit

– Yogurt

– Granola

– Protein Drink after working out

Lunch

– 4 oz. chicken with unlimited spinach or lettuce

– Unlimited veggies

Dinner

– 4 oz. chicken or 6 oz. salmon

– Unlimited veggies

– 1 cup of brown rice or 1 sweet pototoe

Try drinking a gallon of water a day and take a multi-vitamin while doing workouts on top of this ab workout.

The Ab Workout

Do this workout Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Friday. Do each workout without resting in between (you can do it!). You will perform this twice. If you are advanced you can try up to four times.

Start out with 30-45 minutes of cardio. I will be jogging but do anything that will get your body warmed up and remember to tighten those ab muscles when doing it.

Exercise 1

12 Leg Lifts

Exercise 2

12 Side Crunches

Exercise 3

12 Bicycle Crunches on each side

Exercise 4

12 Cross Over Crunches

Exercise 5

12 V-ups

Exercise 6

12 Sit ups

*Repeat 6 exercises twice to start and work your way up to four. Go slow and remember what you are focusing on as you do each rep.

Good luck everyone and looking forward to seeing your hard earned improvements.

Cheers!

NYC Fashion Week 3 Day Experience

What a freaking dope experience it was getting immersed in the madness of NYC Fashion Week. I’ll try to recap as much as I can from the adventures I went through but to say the least was that I will definitely give it a go around again next year!

Front of Building _

I had the privilege of experiencing front row seats to the Exteberria run way show featuring amazing women’s and men’s leather wear only a few hours into arriving in the city. On top of that, taking a picture with Nigel Barker was oober fabulous. Check out more pictures on my Instagram!

Front Row

I had a chance to meet a group of lovely fashionistas at a networking event on top of this really cool Monarch Rooftop Lounge my second day. From models, makeup artists, and handbag designers there were so many connects I made just by joining this event to meeting rising fashion entrepreneurs. The view was epic and was definitely worth it as I expanded my network of fashion lovers. That night I ended going with a couple gals to this rooftop lounge called 230 Fifth. You should definitely check out these places in the city.

Network

My third day I got to go to a pop up shop for upcoming designers. Handbag designer Ella Danla (@EllaDanla) and AMco Clothing (@AdrianaMarieCo) were great hosts and premiered amazing new designs. What I love about these brands is that they showcase being positive and giving back to the community. It’s always so great to see brands that want to make a social impact.

Ella Danla

Really grateful to have gotten a chance to visit Fashion Week for a few days. It was awesome seeing all the avant garde type outfits strutting the streets. New York is definitely the place to experience the busy busy fashion hussle. Until next time…

Cheers!

Top Unique Fitness Events – Are you up for the challenge?

Hello Happy People!

Crazy how time flies. Only four more months to complete this year out. Most of us started the year with our ambitious fitness resolutions only to find out that we really only focused on it for the first couple months and quickly laze away with that goal. Well don’t be discouraged! You still have time to start. It takes four weeks for you to notice changes in your body, eight weeks for friends and family to notice, and twelve total weeks for the whole world to notice all of the hard work spent burning off those calories. So that is three whole months to achieve a ton of progress in your fitness journey by the end of 2014.

While I do have the privilege of participating in workout classes during the work day. There was a time when I didn’t go and simply did my own workout. I will definitely share more in a later post of simple workouts and healthy meal plans I do. For now, I found some awesome events you can work up to or sign up for now if you are already working out on a daily basis.

Training

Make sure you give yourself a month of working up to any of the more challenging events. Don’t just jump straight into these as you will definitely be too exhausted to move the next day and possibly injure yourself during the event. Listen to your body if you haven’t worked out in a while and gauge when you are able to sign up for these events. But we all know you can do it.

Workout Buddies

It is always fun to bring in friends with any fitness goal. Rally up a few friends to sign up and create some lasting memories.

Support a Cause or Even Win Some Mullah $$$

A lot of these events are supporting a cause or some of them allow you to win some cash if you are in the top performing group. Take advantage of it all. If you know of any more fun fitness events to add, please don’t hesitate to comment below and share with all! These are just some things I think would be cool to knock off my fitness event bucket list.

Fight For Air Climb

The Fight for Air Climb is definitely a unique fitness event hosted by the American Lung Association. This event occurs in 65 cities and occur in various places such as skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and challenge participants as they walk, run or race up hundreds of steps. You can do it individually or with a team to raise money for a good cause.

Great Urban Race

Now this is something unique and fun! The Great Urban Race is held in varying cities and teams solve clues, tackle challenges and race for cash prizes. Starts out with your team receiving 12 cryptic clues and each team will have 5 hours to race around the city to solve them. At the end, each team submits their responses and see who gets placed in the top three. Your team can also win to reach the National Championship Race. This is like your own Amazing Race show.

Warrior Dash

Warrior Dash is a large obstacle race series, held in more than 50 locations across the globe. Conquer a 3-4 mile course and 12 extreme obstacles. After conquering it all, celebrate with turkey legs, beer steins, and live music at a post-race party in a league of its own. There is even a national championship held consisting of the top winners where you could win $100,000 of total prize money. So push yourself!

Devil Dash

Devil Dash is a 5K running course comprised of many obstacles themed after the 7 Deadly Sins and then ending at the “Beer Garden of Eden” party. You will be climbing over cargo nets, running through the river, crawling through mud pits, and much more!

Tough Mudder

Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course consisting of lifting your fellow mates to form a pyramid, climbing through underwater tunnels, and climbing up to the top of a huge slide and rewarding yourself of taking the plunge into a pool of water. It’s about having a great story to tell of how you finished a crazy hard course.

Spartan Race

For my fellow fitness beasts, the Spartan Race is an intense obstacle course consisting of varying difficulties. The Spartan Sprint (3+ miles of obstacle racing), the Super Spartan (8+ miles), the Spartan Beast (12+ miles), and the Ultra Beast (26+ miles – one of two marathon obstacle courses along with Mudderthon) are your options. Spartan Race also has a military series in which obstacles are designed by the United States military. ESPN describes the Spartan Race as “a true test of will.

Hope this inspires you to take on a fitness challenge.

Cheers!

Happiness is a Curious Thing

This is the very reason I started this blog. There are many things that can cause our happiness to exist or even shatter it. There isn’t a straight forward guide out there that can tell us how to be happy. It all depends on how we live each day and how we tackle every moment. Always easier said than done right? Totally.

Although as I learned throughout my twenties, a happy meaningful life can be achieved with just taking one step at a time. Being grateful for all the support from loved ones and simple pleasures will take you down that happiness path. We all can be that change to spread goodness in the world but we all have to share all the things that make us laugh and smile.  Happiness is a lifestyle, not an objective or task to mark off your list. So I decided to share all the things that bring me joy and hope they bring you joy too.

From random places to visit on an evening after work or even showing some amazing things to add to your bucket list, there is an abundance of fun things to help add some passion and adventure in life. Keep things simple, breathe, and be grateful for what you have in life. You will be amazed at all the things that come your way when you think positive. They say it takes 21 days to develop a habit. Well stay tuned as I share with you a 21 day happiness journey.

Cheers!
